Challenges peculiar to self-taught in the professional space by Boluwatife Oladipo

I can't tell from afar what it means to be self-taught in a particular field of study. The problem usually is not with the term "self-taught", the primary issue is hinged on assessment and delivery. what follows usually is a question. Self-taught differs in meaning, method, and mentorship. Self-taught means to educate oneself in a particular field without the helping hand of a teacher, but with the help of resources and the internet. The above definition has been extended or paraphrased. When self-taught professionals today didn't get a mentor to teach them directly the tenets of what they are doing or learning. They relied solely on the resources made available via the distribution of information. However, this doesn't mean that self-taught individuals do not appreciate the input of teachers or instructors. It could be that they don't have any at their disposal.

A self-taught, therefore, uses the available resources such as books, videos, articles, or journals in a particular field to widen his or her knowledge in the absence of a coach or teacher.

A self-taught individual enjoys autonomy. In this wise, you are not placed under any pressure, especially time. You are learning at your own pace and comfort. While learning you tend to discover your weaknesses, strengths and learn how to navigate through them to achieve maximum growth in what you are learning.

Also, you are not in a competition. Meaning, you have this mindset that you are the only one involved here even when you know you are the first person to be learning what you are learning. Hence, you are true to yourself.

Of truth, self-taught folks do encounter problems and they by themselves find solutions to it. If there is any drive a 'wannabe-self-taught' must learn, it is self-motivation. This is because at some point, your ability to continue or further your learning requires you to constantly motivate yourself.

A self-taught must understand and create hypothetical situations that are workable and can be applied in real-life situations. The reason is that you can't ascertain fully what you are learning on your holds in the world except you put yourself under the condition of it happening. I learned from that article that most self-taught project managers do have a problem with project management software. So if a self-taught finds himself in this situation, he must subject himself to learning from his team.

Curiosity, Creativity, Consistency by Jodekss

With this, it can be said that one can be partially or wholly self-taught depending on what works for one as an individual.

Examples of self-taught are:

1. He is Hanson, a software engineer (she studied business)

2. Neuronal (she went from mopping floors to becoming a software developer).

Self-taught fellows are those who want to transit career-wise. They are people who must have had an epiphany and thought of transitioning to something they've never thought was achievable. This transition usually takes time. Rome was not built in a day. Hence, doggedness, and consistency are the essential keys. Consistency is like ritual. This is how I have decided to see it. To be consistent means you have to try and do the same thing repeatedly even when it seems it is not working. This brings us to the question that as a person, come this far, how do I do it? It is simple, pretty simple. The primary thing is to have this basic understanding about life that everything comes at a cost and "without sacrifice, there can be no victory."

When that baseline is acknowledged, what I consider next is have a projection or a dream. My dream is to self-instruct myself to be better than yesterday until I am considered one of the best among everyone else in the same profession I am considering. Once my dream is established and well-defined, what I do next is to always remember it. Remembering the reason for the pursuit of a dream is what I consider my driver. Well, this is how it has been working for me and I believe you could sample the same thing or at least redefine it to suit your own nature/individuality. Generally, if you want anything such as attaining a particular height, giving up is not an alternative.

So, there are bunches of challenges attached to 'self-taught' or learning by oneself. Nevertheless, the challenges would eventually amount to your experiences that would solidify you with relevance in the competitive market.
